When this does not happen, we encounter visual defects such as myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"red\">Myopia: what is it?<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>Myopia<\/strong> is a visual defect that prevents us from seeing <strong>clearly<\/strong> the objects located at a long distance, making them <strong>blurry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The name myopia derives from the Greek word myo, which means to \u201cclose\u201d. The eyes are the one that close, with an involuntary or voluntary movement, when they try to increase the clearness of vision.<\/p>\n<p>Myopia is an <strong>ametropia<\/strong>, that is, a <strong>refractive error<\/strong> of the eye: when light rays coming from a distant object, instead focusing on the retina they focus in front of it and the image appears <strong>blurry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A nearsighted person can also have other visual defects: they can be both <strong>nearsighted<\/strong> <strong>and astigmatic<\/strong>, or <strong>nearsighted and presbyopic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A person cannot be nearsighted and farsighted at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8253\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/EMMETROPE-MYOPE-EN-ok.jpg\" alt=\"EMMETROPE-MYOPE-IT\" width=\"856\" height=\"410\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"red\">Myopia: symptoms<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nearsighted people are unable to see distant objects clearly, but they are able to see objects close by.<br \/>\nIn particular, myopic people may:<br \/>\n<strong>\u2014 need to half-close their eyes to see better from distant;<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2014 suffer from eye strain and fatigue;<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2014 suffer from migraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8256\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Miopia_visual.jpg\" alt=\"Miopia_visual\" width=\"856\" height=\"410\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"red\">Myopia: causes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Myopia can occur:<br \/>\n\u2014 as a result of an excessive length of the <strong>eyeball<\/strong> \u2013 this is defined as axial myopia;;<br \/>\n\u2014 as a result of an excessive curvature of the <strong>cornea<\/strong> \u2013 this is defined as <strong>refractive myopia<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In both cases, <strong>ophthalmic lenses<\/strong> and\/or <strong>contact lenses<\/strong> must be created to compensate the visual defect, and specialists measure the degree of correction required in diopters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Up to <strong>-3.00 diopters<\/strong>, myopia is considered low or simple.<br \/>\nFrom <strong>-3.00 to -6.00 diopters<\/strong>, myopia is <strong>moderate<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOver <strong>-6.00 diopters<\/strong>, myopia is considered <strong>high<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"red\">Different types of myopia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are currently aware and able to classify different types of myopia, which are mainly divided between:<br \/>\n\u2014 <strong>congenital myopia<\/strong>, which is present at birth or found at preschool age;<br \/>\n\u2014 <strong>acquired myopia<\/strong>, which is not present at birth but it develops over time;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"red\">How should myopia be corrected?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Refractive errors in nearsighted individuals are corrected with <strong>negative ophthalmic lenses<\/strong>, which diverge the light rays observed directly on the retina, allowing them to see clear and focus images.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-6 no-padding\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8281\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/No-Negative-lenses-vison-EN.jpg\" alt=\"No-Negative-lenses-vison\" width=\"850\" height=\"762\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-6 no-padding\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8281\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Negative-lenses-vison-EN.jpg\" alt=\"Negative-lenses-vison\" width=\"850\" height=\"762\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the new <strong>FreeForm technologies<\/strong>, today we can achieve excellent aesthetic results, even in cases of high myopia.
